A group for families who practise natural/gentle parenting with a child-led approach, and especially for those who have home education, delayed school start, flexi-schooling or alternative educational provision in mind.

All attendees will require suitable outdoor clothing and footwear for the weather, and to bring a water bottle which can be topped up at Forest School if needed.

4 to 10 year olds: Tuesdays 10am to 2pm – £20 – adult must attend

8 to 14 year olds: Thursdays 10am to 2pm – £20 if adult attending; £35 if adult is not attending

Who leads the Forest School Home Ed sessions?

“Hi! I’m Faye, and I joined the team at Churchwood Forest School in 2026. Before stepping into this role, I worked as a qualified Occupational Therapist across children’s and adult services for 12 years.

I’ve always loved supporting people of all ages to develop, grow and thrive through activities that are meaningful to them. Being able to combine that philosophy with my love of the outdoors has truly been a dream come true.

I grew up in Plymouth and spent my childhood exploring everything from the coastline to the moors. My happiest memories are rooted in nature – collecting shells, feathers and pinecones, rock pooling, jumping over waves, gathering sweet chestnuts and roasting them over an open fire. As an ’80s child, I had a freedom that I now realise was incredibly precious.

In today’s world, many children have fewer opportunities to experience that same sense of freedom and connection with nature. My hope is to create a nurturing, welcoming environment where children can discover the natural world through play, curiosity, exploration and adventure, while building confidence, resilience and a lifelong love of the outdoors.

I’m especially excited to work alongside home-educating families, creating a space where children can follow their interests, build friendships, and enjoy the freedom to learn through meaningful experiences in nature.

When I’m not frolicking in the woods, you’ll usually find me starting another craft project, splashing in the sea, climbing rock faces or dancing Lindy Hop. At home, life is wonderfully busy with my husband and our two sons, aged 6 and 10.
