“After my son was out of school for six months – not out of choice – I realised just how big the gap is in our education system. School works wonderfully for many children, but there’s a growing number who just can’t manage it. These children aren’t broken, the system is, and I felt called to do my bit to help build something better.
Having run a successful Forest School since 2017 and outdoor Kindergarten since 2019, in 2025 I decided to expand the site and start my own alternative provision. I fundraised, applied for grants, and built a team of people who truly understand the SEN world; people who shared my heart, vision and purpose.
Together, we worked tirelessly: registering with local authorities, writing policies, preparing the site, and training – all to make sure what we offer truly meets the needs of these young people and their families.
Churchwood Forest Path AP opened in spring 2026, a place where everyone is welcome and supported to build their self-esteem and engage with the environment and their peers. The AP isn’t just about education; it’s about empowerment. It’s about helping every young person discover what they can do – and reminding them that they belong, just as they are.”
